NOTICE OF RECEIPT OF A REMEDIAL ACTION PLAN AND PUBLIC MEETING
D.E. Karn Landfill The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) has received a proposed remedial action plan (RAP) for the D.E. Karn Landfill located at 2742 North Weadock Highway, Essexville, Bay County Michigan. The proposed RAP provides a remedy for groundwater contamination caused by historical landfill activities by the installation of a permeable reactive barrier to intercept contaminated groundwater, establishment of groundwater use restrictions by a restrictive covenant, and groundwater monitoring.
This notice is provided according to the requirements of Part 201, Environmental Remediation, and Part 115, Solid Waste Management, of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act (NREPA), 1994 PA 451, as amended, to notify interested persons that EGLE has received the proposed RAP. This notice is provided to allow for public comment prior to final action on the proposed RAP.
A public meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at 7:00 PM at the Hampton Township Hall, 801 West Center Road, Essexville, Michigan. Persons with disabilities needing accommodations for effective participation in the meeting should contact Lori Babcock, Bay City District Office, Materials Management Division, at 989-460-7352 a week in advance to request mobility, visual, hearing, or other assistance.

Notice is hereby given that the Hampton Township Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. in the meeting room of the Hampton Township Hall, 801 West Center Road, Essexville, Michigan 48732, to consider at the request of the applicant, Fisher Contracting, on behalf of Paul and Cynthia Rivard, owners of the below-described property, for a special use permit which would allow it to construct and maintain a pond on property currently zoned low density residential district (R-2) within the Charter Township of Hampton, County of Bay, State of Michigan. Under the Zoning Ordinance, ponds are permitted in said zone only by special use permit, granted by the Planning Commission following hearing. Applicant Lutz Brothers Custom Builders by Michael Lutz on behalf of John and Gale Thayer has petitioned to obtain a 10 foot variance for the rear yard setback to construct an addition to the residential home on a parcel of property. This parcel of property is zoned Residential 3 – High Density Residential District. Pursuant to the Township Ordinance a setback for a home in this district is a front yard of 35 feet and a rear yard setback of 30 feet. The Thayer home is located at 1750 Alpine Court, Bay City, Michigan is on the north side of Alpine Court.
