SEWER CLEANING

Beginning the week of April 27th, the Hampton Township DPW will be cleaning the sewer system.  Please note that you may experience some water splashing out of your toilet and an odor if your vent pipe is plugged so it is recommended that you keep your toilet seat cover down.

We understand that this cleaning process may be an inconvenience, but cleaning and assessing the sewer system not only helps maintain the system but also helps locate areas that may be plugged. By identifying and fixing known problems, we are hopefully preventing future issues such as major back-ups of sewage in basements.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

TO:      THE RESIDENTS AND PROPERTY OWNERS OF THE CHARTER TOWNSHIP OF HAMPTON

            Notice is hereby given that that Hampton Township Planning Commission, on its own initiative, will hold a public hearing on Thursday, March 11, 2021, at 7:00 p.m. in the meeting room of the Hampton Township Hall, 801 W. Center Road, Essexville, Michigan 48732, to consider an amendment to the text of the Township Zoning Ordinance (Ordinance 36A) which would permit contractor storage yards associated with typical outdoor business services, including, but not limited to, landscaping, tree cutting and removal, and construction contractors in the business zones.  This use will only be pursuant to a Special Use Permit granted by the Planning Commission.  There are certain minimum standards anticipated to be placed within the ordinance within Section 8.02.c(6).  This Special Use Permit would be for the B-1 Zone (general business district) and all uses permitted in the B-1 Zone are also permitted in the B-2 agricultural/business transition district on the same terms and conditions of the B-1 Zone.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, you are encouraged to check the Township webpage to determine whether this meeting will be an in-person meeting at the hall as indicated above or whether there will be electronic instructions posted on the webpage to allow participation and attend this meeting via computer, telephone etc.

You are welcome to attend and express your opinions at the hearing or you may express your views in writing.  The proposed text amendment is available for review and inspection at the Hampton Township offices between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.  However, if due to the COVID pandemic the office is closed, the proposed text amendment will be available to view on the Township website.  All communications must be received at the Township offices prior to the date of the hearing.

Legal notice for Appeal No. 21-1
Applicant: Jere and Joyce Brunette
Regarding Parcel No.: 09-070-023-300-550-01 

An Appeal has been made to this Board by:

Jere and Joyce Brunette, owners of property commonly referred to as 2713 W. Center Ave., Essexville, Michigan 48732 for a variance from the requirements of the Charter Township of Hampton Zoning Ordinance, being Ordinance 36-A, as amended to construct an accessory storage structure on this parcel of property with side and/or rear yards of 13 feet from the north property line and 8 feet from the west property line.

This parcel of property is in a Commercial Zoning District and, as such, is subject to the requirements of Section 8.03(B) requiring a side yard (from the west lot line) on this district when adjoining a parcel of property that is also zoned B-1 or Commercial to be a minimum of 15 feet unless it is adjacent to a residential district.

Similarly, one of the yards for which this variance is sought is considered a rear yard and that is required by Section 8.03(C) to be a minimum set back of 25 feet (from the North lot line).  Therefore, the west property line would need a variance of 8 feet to allow this structure to be 8 feet from the property line and the north property line would need a variance of 13 feet to allow this storage structure to be 8 feet from the north property line.

On Thursday, March 18, 2021, at 7:00 p.m. a public hearing will be held in the Board Room of the Hampton Township Administrative Office at 801 W. Center Ave., Essexville, Michigan 48732, giving you the opportunity of having your opinion to being recorded on this appeal.  You may appear, authorize others to represent you, or you may express your view in writing. 

All communications must be received by the Clerk’s office on or before the date of the hearing by 3:30 p.m.  The variance request may be viewed at the Clerk’s office Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 am or 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., excluding holidays.  Variances or modifications have no baring on private restrictions.  Additionally, in light of the COVID-19 Pandemic, this matter may be conducted as a public hearing pursuant to electronic medium or virtual meetings.  Therefore you are encouraged to contact the Township Offices at 989-893-7541 to see if public is being permitted to enter the building for purposes of inspection.  You should also check the Township webpage to ensure that if it is not an in person meeting, you may access the meeting and direct questions to the Board members prior to the meeting at appropriate internet or telephone contacts.
